OverviewThe DVD will feature two distinct films: an inspirational documentary following four people learning to kayak and a comprehensive instructional resource. The documentary will follow the story of four people with differing abilities as they grapple with the challenges of learning to kayak. This personal story takes place on the beautiful West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The instructional methodology is a break from the tradition of teaching 'strokes'. Instead, it explains kayaking through a series of simple concepts and drills that are enduring in nature and will be relevant for generations of paddlers. These concepts can be applied to all levels of ability: from absolute beginners on flat water to confident white-water kayakers. Target AudienceThe interactive format allows the DVD to target a wide audience of novices, recreational kayakers, instructors and school teachers. Beginners and recreational paddlers will be inspired and encouraged by the documentary, as they see real people practice and master the concepts and drills explained in detail during the instructional film. Instructors and teachers will use the instructional film to enhance their own lessons. The 'in-depth' material contained in the DVD extras will allow them to further broaden their knowledge and improve their teaching practice, behind the scenes. FormatThe documentary - four real people are taught to kayak. The film will focus on the personal challenges and achievement of the group. The instruction - short lessons for paddlers with abilities ranging from complete beginner to advanced intermediate. Lessons are formatted consistently for simplicity and clarity. Individual lessons can be accessed through chapters in the DVD menu. The extras - the lessons are broken down into more detail, focussing on teaching methodology and troubleshooting common problems, in the real-life environment of the documentary.
